七十載篳路藍縷，矢志創(chuàng)新。創(chuàng)建于1949年12月的上海外國語大學(xué)，是新中國成立后由國家創(chuàng)辦的第一所高等外語學(xué)府，是教育部直屬并與上海市共建、進入國家“211工程”和“雙一流”建設(shè)的全國重點大學(xué)。從建校初期單一語種的華東人民革命大學(xué)附設(shè)上海俄文學(xué)校到上世紀50年代中期迅速發(fā)展為多語種的上海外國語學(xué)院；從外語單科性的上海外國語學(xué)院，到改革開放后率先建設(shè)以外國語言文學(xué)學(xué)科為重，文、教、經(jīng)、管、法等學(xué)科協(xié)調(diào)發(fā)展的多科性的上海外國語大學(xué)；從建設(shè)“高水平國際化多科性外國語大學(xué)”到建成“國別區(qū)域全球知識領(lǐng)域特色鮮明的世界一流外國語大學(xué)”，每一次更迭都體現(xiàn)著上外人自我革新、勇于探索的追求。

七十載歲月崢嶸，初心不改。從首任黨委書記、校長姜椿芳提出“為人民的生活幸福服務(wù)，為國家建設(shè)服務(wù)”的建校目標，到改革開放初期上外在全國率先實施“培養(yǎng)國家四化建設(shè)需要的外語復(fù)合型人才”戰(zhàn)略，再到如今以“服務(wù)國家發(fā)展、服務(wù)人的全面成長、服務(wù)社會進步、服務(wù)中外人文交流”為新時代的辦學(xué)使命，與新中國同呼吸、共命運的上海外國語大學(xué)，始終以培養(yǎng)擔當民族復(fù)興大任的時代新人為目標，以服從和服務(wù)于國家經(jīng)濟和社會發(fā)展需要為己任。

七十載博學(xué)經(jīng)世，桃李芬芳。方重、陸佩弦、岳揚烈、夏仲毅、徐仲年、王德春、李觀儀、楊小石等眾多名家大師薈萃于此，執(zhí)教治學(xué)，開創(chuàng)并豐富著上外的人文傳統(tǒng)；數(shù)萬才華橫溢、出類拔萃的畢業(yè)生活躍在國家對外開放的最前沿，足跡遍布全球，為我國的外交外事、國際傳播、經(jīng)濟建設(shè)、文化繁榮和社會發(fā)展，為促進中外人文交流做出了貢獻。新時代的上外秉承“詮釋世界，成就未來”的辦學(xué)理念，致力于培養(yǎng)更多“會語言、通國家、精領(lǐng)域”的“多語種+”卓越國際化人才。

歷滄桑七十載，期繼往而開來。70周年校慶是上海外國語大學(xué)發(fā)展史上的一個重要里程牌，是全體上外人匯聚光榮與夢想的盛事之典，更是凝聚發(fā)展力量、深化綜合改革、推進“雙一流”建設(shè)、譜寫新時代篇章的嶄新起點。

SISU Prepares to Celebrate Its 70th Anniversary

(Notice No. 1)

In December 2019, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) shall celebrate its 70th Anniversary with a series of special events designed in response to requests and proposals from SISU alumni across the world and all SISU faculty and staff.

Established in December 1949, shortly after the founding of the People’s Republic of China(PRC), as the first foreign language institution of higher learning in the PRC,SISU is now a leading Chinese university under the joint administration of China’s Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Shanghai Municipal Government. SISU has also been endorsed by China’s national “Project 211” and “Double First-rate Program” for university administration.

Through seven decades of its commitment and endeavours, SISU has developed a remarkable track record of progressive reforms from its beginning as a single language teaching institution to Shanghai Foreign Languages Institute offering multi-language programs in the mid-1950s, then to a multi-disciplinary university offering, in addition to programs of foreign languages and literatures, a diverse mix of academic disciplines including literature, education, economics, management sciences, and law in the late 1970s when China launched its reform and opening-up policy, and finally to the currentworld-class international studies university with a distinctive global vision.

Since its establishment, SISU has stayed true to its commitments to“serving the Chinese people’s wellbeing and China’s national development,” as proposed by its first president Jiang Chunfang; to “producing multi-disciplinary professionals specialized in foreign language studies needed for China’s modernization development,” as defined in the outset of China’s reform and opening-up policy; and to “serving China’s national development,social advancement, and cultural and humanistic exchange between China and other countries.”

SISU has featured an outstanding team of prestigious faculty members, including FangZhong, Lu Peixian, Yue Yanglie, Xia Zhongyi, Xu Zhongnian, Wang Dechun, Li Guanyi, and Yang Xiaoshi, who all played remarkable roles in the creation and enrichment of SISU’s academic tradition and cultural legacy, and in the training of tens of thousands of highly talented SISUgraduates working at the forefronts of China’s opening-up to the rest of the world. SISU graduates have equally made spectacular contribution in China’s foreign affairs, international communication and economic, cultural and social development. With a focus on its mission to “Interpret the World, Translate the Future”,SISU has been and will continue to be devoted to producing excellent multi-disciplinary, international talents proficient in different languages and knowledgeable about various countries.

As a key milestone in the history of SISU, the 70th anniversary of the founding of SISU is a grand event to celebrate the glory developed by all SISUers over the decades and refresh its aspirations for the future, as well as the starting point of a new era marked by further comprehensive reforms toward a better university of prestige.

SISU greatly appreciates all those, including the alumni across the world, who have contributed to the university’s development, and invites your presence at the celebration.
