Hi, my name is Abigail Owusu-Agyeman. I am from Ghana located in the West Africa and currently a student of the MBA 2016 class. This is an article on my experiences in NJUPT in the past few years. Relax and Enjoy!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Life is all about learning. School life is but a preparation to face the challenges the world brings as it shapes our characters, mould our mental attitudes and fashions the basic principles of life. Aside all the schools I had been enrolled in, NJUPT is also an extra great influence upon me as it ensures the acquisition of virtues such as perseverance, sincerity, truthfulness, tolerance, discipline and obedience.

If I had to describe how NJUPT made me feel after my first week on campus, I would use the words capable and dynamic. Even before freshmen got to the campus in 2016, there were assigned teams who welcomed students and ensured they had a good rest till they were ready for next day proceedings. I am quite sure this warm reception made students who had already missed home get some sort of assurance of a better place. We had prep modules or orientations and other interactive plans which helped us to officially become part of the culture at NJUPT; these also allowed me to see that I have what it takes to succeed in this career.

IN CLASS

During our time for lectures, there were no dull moments in class as the MBA 2016 class is mixed up with interesting people from backgrounds like Ghana, Tanzania, Kazakhstan, Russia, Guinea, DR. Congo, Cameroon, Bangladesh, and Morocco. NJUPT provides awesome classroom environment as it makes sure every student is at his or her comfort zone to absorb knowledge from professors. Initially, I had a perception that there would be communication barriers between the two parties viz the students and professors but we were provided with highly experienced and smart professors who lectured effectively. Even though I am in management school, These professors adopted techniques to make class interesting some of which were presentations on topics discussed, practical experiments on models learnt and field trips to various corporations like the 3D corporations just to mention a few.

REAL

WORLD EXPERIENCE

I am unbelievably grateful for all the ways in which NJUPT guides its students to take small, yetmeaningfulsteps to prepare for class, career fairs, networking opportunities, and most importantly learn about yourself. Individuals here tend to discover awesome embedded talents through recreational teams like the football team, basketball, cricket teams, badminton team among and others as well as social clubs which seek to mainly bring international students and Chinese students under one umbrella. There are always some form of fascinating instances the school provides such as involvement opportunities, or a chance to connect with the staff, alumni, and professors. As NJUPT is an international community, there is a wide range of different cultures combined to shape each others perspectives. These could be attributed to the traditional festivals from different background, food, dance, music and the lifestyle of students which gives a broader insight or experience on these categorized backgrounds. We literally experience the whole world in our small community. Interesting!

LIVING

CONDITIONS

Hostel on campus are well equipped which makes the environment serene and comfortable to live in. Not to talk of the convenient Wi-Fi around as well as affordable electricity expenses. There are also assigned officials who ensure that rapt attention is given to any problem that is reported by students.

Living on campus is convenient. You will not waste time driving back and forth to school or looking for a place to park or take the subway. Living conditions on campus have made me more involved, active, enriched my learning since major events are held on campus as well as making new friends.

BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS

There are more things in heaven and earth than you've ever dream of.

NJUPT’s campus is boosted with modern buildings, accented with dozens of beautiful trees and sculptures complimented by a lake. The lush lawns everywhere is so perfect for studying and a pick up game. The streets are well laid with no restrictions such as potholes and the like. There are convenient mode of swift transportation such as OFO bikes and scooters neatly packed around. You can come around and have a good look at our campus if you are not a NUPTER!

EVENTSTRIPS

Incredible series of events have been held but the one which is worth repeating is the freshmen parade or opening ceremony, where the stadium on campus was set up in distinguishingly beautiful colors as freshmen marched around the stadium in a systematic manner. Chinese students also displayed their beautiful culture through gymnastics which still stays amazing to me. This honorable display brought a sense of togetherness and harmony.

NJUPT widens our horizons by adding up external experiences as well. One of the amazing trip we embarked on was to Jiangyan No. 2 High School where we had the chance to interact with high school students. They were extremely excited about our coming and showed us around the various departments of the school ranging from laboratories and the others. To make the trip interesting, we visited a wildlife park with these students where we were sub divided to take different routes in the park. This was more like a” hide and seek” game! After boat riding, we finally settled to have dinner, and yes that was what I was waiting for! Haha!. We also had the opportunity to display what NJUPT is made of as some of us had a traditional dance to entertain the students. It was hard coming the next day after sleeping in 5 star hotel. Hah!

WRAP UP

These are few summarized advice I can give to other freshmen in NJUPT. I would encourage you to keep them in mind as you enjoy the program to the fullest. I personally think they are helping me stay accountable and motivated;
